Students at Chartwell often excel in the visual arts, including digital photography. Students begin their work in our summer school science class where they make a box camera and learn about optics and light. In Technology, they learn how to set their cameras for the available light, depth of field, and shutter speed so they can capture the image they have in mind. Once they have their image, students use software such as iPhoto and Lightroom to edit their photos for publishing. Students print their images and submit them into a bi-annual photo contest, judged by photographers. All students in grades 2-8 receive instruction in photography as part of the Technology curriculum.
