CHARTWELL SCHOOL TO HOLD ELEVENTH ANNUAL CATAPULT CONTEST
SEASIDE, Calif. – Students at Chartwell School will participate in this year’s 11th annual Catapult Contest on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. on the Fort Ord site of Chartwell School’s futurecampus. (Take General Jim Moore Boulevard to Normandy and proceed inland to Numa Watson.).
These medieval contraptions, designed and built entirely by students and their families bridge what the students are learning in their science, art and history classrooms. Science teacher, Jim Kirshner, and art teacher, Patti Kirshner, organize this school project and event to encourage hands-on learning and collaboration between students and parents.
Several categories of catapults will participate in the contest. These include:
q The Tinkerbell Category – small catapults or trebuchets built at school. Will toss small (10g) walnuts.
q The Peter Pan Category – less than one meter. Will toss small (10g) fruit.
q The Dumbo Category – the Big Bertha catapults, more than one meter. Will toss small pumpkins.
Current families, public spectators and fans are welcome.
