CHARTWELL SCHOOL RECEIVES ACCREDITATION
From the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools & Colleges
Seaside, Ca – Chartwell School recently completed the initial application process and was awarded accreditation by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process which plays an important role in developing and maintaining the high quality of education in this country. Private and non-public schools are not required to meet the standards for accreditation; private schools that choose to pursue accreditation go above and beyond what is merely required. Accreditation certifies – to other education institutions and to the general public – that Chartwell meets established criteria or standards and is achieving its own stated objectives.
The application process is intensive and involves a self-study, staff training, reporting and extensive visits from the accrediting agency. The term of this interim accreditation will run through June 2006. Prior to the end of this period, the school must prepare for a full accreditation visit by completing a self-study and accreditation review, both of which promote improvement in educational quality and institutional effectiveness.
For Chartwell School, there is a special timeliness of achieving this milestone, for this year marks their twentieth anniversary of providing valuable services to children on the Central Coast with dyslexia and related language learning disabilities.
