    Chartwell’s tuition

  • It is important to understand that every student enrolled at Chartwell receives financial assistance.  Chartwell’s tuition covers 95% of the actual expense for educating one child for 10 months.  Each year the fundraising department at Chartwell makes up a deficit for every child enrolled, giving all students some level of financial assistance.

Chartwell may be more affordable than you think

Chartwell understands that many families have not included Chartwell’s tuition in their financial planning.  It is very common that families are faced with reevaluating and rearranging existing plans and processes they have in place in order to manage Chartwell’s tuition.  Some choices that families might consider include refinancing a home, liquidating investments such as college funds, retirement funds and savings plans.  Other considerations include increasing income, borrowing from extended family members or a lending institution.  Some people do not possess many or any of these assets or options.  Each year a limited amount of Financial Aid is made available to those families who apply and demonstrate their need.

    The Committee

The Financial Aid Committee is charged with the task of assessing the financial ability of each applicant.  They require that an application be completed and financial data submitted so they may determine the level of assets, consider overall expenses, determine if Chartwell can offer financial assistance and to what level.  Chartwell never offers 100% tuition assistance.  Families currently on aid have first priority to receive aid again if the student is still appropriate for Chartwell’s services.  The second priority is for families currently attending Chartwell but who were unable to receive financial aid this year or did not apply.  The final priority is for new students entering Chartwell.  Each family enrolled at Chartwell is expected to participate in at least a portion of the annual tuition expense.

Should I apply for Financial Aid?

Families request Financial Aid applications if Chartwell’s tuition will severely impact financial stability.  Below is a quick financial self-evaluation designed to help determine if you would qualify for financial assistance:

    • Is the total household income more than $95,000 per year? Y/N
    • Is this a two-parent household? Y/N
    • Are both parents in the child’s life? Y/N
    • If YES, are both parents employed? Y/N
    • Do you own your home? Y/N
    • Does any member in your household have a retirement fund? Y/N
    • Does any member in your family have a savings fund or account? Y/N
    • Is anyone in your household named in a Trust? Y/N
    • Have you recently purchased a new car or recreational vehicle? Y/N
    • Do you have an investment portfolio? Y/N
    • Do you have a relative who could help in any way financially? Y/N

If you answered NO to most or all of these questions, you may want to consider applying for Financial Aid.  These questions are in no way intended to determine if you will receive an award but are only intended to provide a general indication if it would be beneficial to apply for financial aid.

How do I apply for Financial Aid?

Clearly, having your child’s learning disability properly addressed by Chartwell School involves many considerations, choices and possible sacrifices to achieve a positive academic outcome.  We hope you are able to construct a plan that will allow your child to attend Chartwell School and have an opportunity to become a successful learner.  Please apply for Financial Aid if you feel your financial circumstances fall within the criteria outlined in this brochure.  You will be asked to include full copies of your Federal tax returns to verify the information on the application.  Finally, a brief meeting will be scheduled with the school’s Business Manager to review your application.  You will have the results from the Financial Aid Committee in writing prior to making a commitment for enrollment.

    Confidentiality and non-discrimination

Chartwell School admits students of any race, religion, national origin or gender in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, financial aid program or other school administered programs. Information gathered from families during the financial aid process is held in the strictest confidence.
