Teacher Training Institute

The Teacher Training Institute (TTI) offers a professional development program for practicing educators who would like to learn more about best practices in the fields of reading instruction and learning disabilities. The priority registration deadline for the 2013 Teacher Training Institute is May 15, 2013. After this date, applications are still accepted but placement will be contingent on availability.

CEU credits are available through the University of San Diego (USD).

Teacher Training Institute
Dates: July 8 – July 11 (Monday-Thursday)
Hours: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Tuition: $500
Location: Chartwell School

This four-day seminar is designed for teachers, tutors, educational therapists, and parents who would like to learn more about diagnostic education, early intervention, and reading instruction. Participants will be provided with materials and practical strategies for implementing best practices in classrooms, small groups, or one-on-one tutoring sessions.

Topics to be covered include:
Three profiles of learning challenges (dyslexia, ADD, non-verbal LD)
Learned helplessness and attribution training
Diagnostic teaching (using data to drive instruction)
National Reading Panel study of best practices for teaching reading
Phonics and phonemic awareness
Vocabulary development
Reading fluency
Reading comprehension
Early identification of reading challenges and strategies to implement
