ADMISSIONS

At Chartwell our goal is to have children from all walks of life able to access the education they need.  Our programs and services are carefully designed to help students develop the skills, confidence and creativity needed to return successfully to mainstream education and become lifelong learners.  You are your child’s strongest advocate and we thank you for your interest in our program.

Chartwell Facts:

  • We are a coeducational school in central California.
  • Chartwell accepts students in elementary and middle school. (Please see www.newhighschool.org for our high school program.)
  • Faculty are trained in research-based diagnostic instruction in order to help students with learning variations develop the skills to become lifelong learners.
  • On average, our students attend Chartwell for two to four years, or until they are able to demonstrate the skills and confidence needed to be successful in a more conventional classroom setting.

The typical Chartwell student is one who has average or higher intelligence, as identified by cognitive testing, and has no primary emotional or behavioral issues that would preclude him or her from constructively engaging in the academic program.  Our students generally exhibit some difficulty with reading, writing, spelling, memorization, and other forms of processing such as phonological awareness, decoding and rapid naming.
